Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
Is excess, flabby abdominal skin preventing you from having the firm, tight appearance you want? With tummy tuck surgery, you can achieve the contour, definition, and youthful tone you deserve following weight loss or pregnancy.
Candidates
Tummy tuck surgery is highly beneficial to women who have had one or more pregnancies and been left with a soft and protruding abdomen. Additionally, tummy tuck surgery is best suited for moms who have finished having children.
If you are considering tummy tuck surgery, we recommend that you be within 50 pounds of your goal weight. It is also important that you have maintained a stable weight for at least six months. Significant weight loss or gain following your surgery can affect the quality of your results.
Your Consultation
Your consultation is a key step in the surgical process. We determine if you are healthy enough for tummy tuck surgery and what concerns need to be addressed with your surgery. We evaluate your areas of skin accumulation and determine if you require abdominal muscle tightening or fat reduction in addition to your skin removal.
Tummy Tuck Surgery Techniques
- Skin removal is performed by placing an incision just above the pubic area and a secondary incision around the navel. We remove excess skin from the midsection to achieve flattering results.
- Abdominal muscle tightening is performed on patients who have muscle laxity, which is especially common in postpartum women. A corset technique is used to stitch the abdominal muscles together, restoring firmness to your abdomen.
- Liposuction can be combined with all tummy tuck procedures to eliminate excess fat and enhance the definition of your abdominal contours. This procedure can create more attractive curves.
- Mini tummy tuck procedures are performed on patients with mild to moderate amounts of laxity in the lower abdominal area. However, these surgeries only address skin and muscle laxity below the navel.
Procedure Process
Tummy tuck surgery is an outpatient procedure, most commonly performed using a general anesthetic. You shouldn’t eat or drink past midnight the day of your surgery. Prior to your surgery, we will review your tailored tummy tuck surgery plan as well as your post-operative care instructions. You will not be able to drive yourself home from the procedure; because of this, you will need to be accompanied by a licensed adult.
Recovery
The total recovery process lasts about six weeks. During the first several days, you will experience bruising, swelling, and some discomfort. We control pain using oral medication. Throughout your recovery, you will wear a compression garment designed to reduce swelling and improve results. We project that you will be able to return to work within two weeks after your surgery. Most people can resume their regular exercise routine after four weeks. Most major swelling should subside and your final results should be visible around six weeks after surgery.
